Jay Walter lived a blessed life, full of joy, laughter and love. He met his wife Gerri on the job, when they were paramedic partners. They worked for Medevac until 1985, when they moved to Morgan Hill and volunteered for the Morgan Hill Fire Department. He became a full-time firefighter in 1988 and joined the Berkeley Fire Department in 1993. During his tenure, he was a SWAT Paramedic for the Berkeley Police Department's Hostage Negotiations Team and an instructor for the Counter Narcotics and Terrorism Operational Medical Support Program. He died of job-related cancer.
