San Mateo County Battalion Chief Gene Mullins passed away on June 1, 2012 after a three-year battle with occupational cancer.  A second-generation firefighter, his late father, Robert, had previously served with the Office of the California State Fire Marshal and the Colma Fire Protection District.  Battalion Chief Mullins was respected by all ranks within the South County Fire Protection authority.
