To Dean Moore, helping others was a way of life. His firefighting career began in the US Navy at the age of 17. Even when he was well into his career as a wildlife heavy equipment operator for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, he was offered promotions and turned them down. "Is it wrong liking where you are at now?" he would respond. He wanted to remain where he could help others and be of the most benefit. He passed away of jobrelated cancer.
