While fighting a structure fire in February 2005, Captain Mark McCormack came in contact with an energized electrical wire, the first line of duty death in the history of the Santa Clara County Fire Department. Brother McCormack had spent the previous 16 years pursuing a career as a firefighter and paramedic with Orange County, CDF Riverside County and San Mateo County, and since 1999 had been with Santa Clara County. He was promoted to Captain in December 2004. Mark was 36 years old, and is survived by his wife of 16 years, Heather. He loved being a firefighter and wouldn't trade it for anything
