On January 13, 2005 Captain John Hill, 42, lost his three-year battle with job-related leukemia. John served 13 years with the Torrance Fire Department as a Firefighter Paramedic, Engineer, Captain and Training Instructor. Brother Hill was a hero, mentor and friend who always felt rewarded by the job he held with the opportunity to help people everyday. He loved his job so much that he often said he would do it for free. John leaves behind his wife Katherine and teenage children Sarah and Connor.
