Elwood Henry After migrating to California and becoming a  member of the Los Angeles City Fire Department in 1912, Elwood Henry immersed himself in the work of a fireman.  He excelled at rising through the promotional ranks and prior to his death, he was serving in the position of Battalion Chief.  Tragedy struck Elwood in 1930, after 18 years of service, when he plummeted to his death in an attempt to rescue a small child who had been trapped under an elevator car.  He had always been regarded as a respectful, notable individual who dedicated himself to his family and the fire service.
