Captain Daniel E. Elkins, a 20-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and member of the Los Angeles County Firefighters Local 1014, died in the line of duty on July 13, 2004 in a vehicle accident en route to his station after serving as a member of the Pine Incident Management Team. Promoted to Fire Captain in 2003, Daniel Elkins was also a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Team. Captain Elkins is the first firefighter to die in the line of duty in Los Angeles County since 1993
