California Fire Foundation Disaster Relief Provides More Than $425,000 In Support for Survivors of the Park and Borel Fires

SACRAMENTO (August 5, 2024) - As a leading non-profit organization, the California Fire Foundation is dedicated to providing immediate assistance to California residents and firefighters impacted by wildfires and natural disasters. In response to the recent devastating Park and Borel Fires, the Foundation has activated its Disaster Relief program, distributing over $400,000 in Disaster Relief cash cards to support residents impacted by the fires.

Assistance for Park Fire Survivors

The Park Fire, which began on July 24, has burned over 401,000 acres, and destroyed more than 569 structures in Butte and Tehama counties. In response, the California Fire Foundation has distributed 1,300 cash cards worth $250 each, totaling $325,000, to survivors in need. Working in partnership with Northern Valley Catholic Social Services (NVCSS), the Foundation ensures that these funds provide immediate relief for essential needs like medicine, food, gas, lodging, and clothing. Additionally, the Foundation has donated $10,000 to the United Way of Northern California to support its critical 211 NorCal referral program and $15,000 to NVCSS to further disaster relief efforts.

Support for Borel Fire Victims

The Borel Fire, which started on July 13, has ravaged over 59,000 acres in Kern County, destroying multiple structures. In response, the California Fire Foundation, in partnership with Kern County Fire Department plans to distribute 300 cash cards worth $250 each, totaling $75,000, to survivors. These cards will be distributed at the Kern River Valley Senior Center in Lake Isabella from August 10-13.

“The importance of providing quick and effective aid during such destructive wildfires cannot be overstated,” said Rick Martinez, Executive Director of the California Fire Foundation. “Our partnerships with community-based organizations like Northern Valley Catholic Social Services and United Way of Northern California enable us to get help directly to those who need it most.”

Ryan Crowe, Assistant Director of NVCSS, emphasized the crucial role of community support: “The California Fire Foundation's commitment allows us to offer essential emotional and financial assistance. This vital work is only possible with the ongoing involvement of our community partners. It takes a village!"
