LODD: Rialto Engineer Richard "Scott" Schwingel

The Rialto Fire Department and Rialto Professional Firefighters, Local 3688 are saddened to announce the passing of one of their own in the line of duty.

Rialto Fire Engineer Richard “Scott” Schwingel passed away on January 27, 2018, following a battle with job-related colon cancer. He was 52 years old.

Brother Schwingel was hired as a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Rialto in 2001. He was promoted to Fire Engineer in 2006. Scott was the 2016 recipient of the Rialto Fire Department Life Saving Award. Most recently he was the recipient of the “Firefighter of the Year” award in 2017.

Brother Schwingel was known for his lighthearted approach to a challenging profession and his infectious smile. He was an amazing firefighter and an even greater man who took great pride in serving the community. In every sense he was a model firefighter.

Scott leaves behind his wife Stephanie, his two sons Robbie and Austin, his daughter Bella and his grandson Bryce. He is survived by his mother Sue and brother Steven.
