LODD: Fire Captain Ramon "Ray" Figueroa

The Porterville Fire Department is saddened to announce the passing of Fire Captain Ramon "Ray" Figueroa, 35, who died in the line of duty.

Brother Figueroa was killed while battling the City of Porterville Library Fire with fellow Firefighter Patrick Jones. They were the first to arrive on scene and entered the building to conduct a primary search to ensure all civilians had exited. Over 50 firefighters worked to control the blaze where Figueroa and Jones sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Fire Captain Figueroa, 35, began his career with Lindsay City Fire Department and was hired with Porterville in 2007. He worked his way through the ranks of engineer and was promoted to fire captain in 2018. Brother Figueroa is remembered as a dedicated firefighter and mentor in the community, known for his saying, “my men, the mission, then me.”

Memorial Information

A joint memorial service for Brothers Figueroa and Jones will be held Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Porterville Church of the Nazarene, 2005 W. Olive, Porterville, CA 93257. The service will begin at 11:00am.

Uniform personnel are requested to arrive at 9:00am. The families have requested dress attire for uniformed personnel to be Department Class A Uniform.

Honor Guard Information

All departmental and local union honor guards are encouraged to participate in the memorial services of Brothers Figueroa and Jones. Honor guard members should arrive by 7:00am for mandatory practice.
