LODD: CAL FIRE Captain Pete Santana

pete_santana-webCalifornia Professional Firefighters and Local 2881 are saddened to announce the loss of their own.

On December 20, 2013 CAL FIRE Fire Captain Pete Santana passed away at the age of 64 after a nearly two year courageous battle with job-related cancer.

Pete, a Vietnam-era US Army veteran and a native of New York City, went to work for Gilroy Rural FPD in 1972, promoting to captain five years later. He joined CAL FIRE in 1980 after a district merger with South Santa Clara Co. FPD. He served as administrative captain for the growing district, managing a budget and backing up as chief officer.

In 1993, he transferred to Patterson, where he received a Superior Accomplishment Award from CAL FIRE for his pivotal role on a statewide Development and Design Committee for a new, state of the art, all-risk fire engine. He retired in 2005.

He is survived by his wife Nancy and his children, son Michael and daughter Danielle.

Memorial services were held Monday, December 23, 2013 in Gilroy.
