LODD Announcement: Marin County Fire Department Engineer James Byrnes

 

It is with heavy hearts that the Marin Co. Fire Department and the Marin Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 1775 share the news of the passing of one of their beloved engineers.

Fire Engineer James "Jamie" Byrnes passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 51, after a courageous 13-year battle with job-related cancer. Jamie dedicated 32 years to the Marin County Fire Department and the Larkspur Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Engineer. His commitment to public service and his union brothers and sisters earned him deep respect among his colleagues and the community.

Brother Byrnes was a longtime labor leader and incredibly integral part of the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775, having served in the following roles: Bargaining Unit Organizer, Contract Negotiator, Shop Steward, Executive Board Member, Committee Chairman, Sergeant-at-Arms, Union Treasurer, Union Vice President and as a Delegate to the International Association of Fire Fighters. Jamie spent his professional career working at the County of Marin Fire Department, retiring due to his diagnosis at the rank of Fire Engineer. He had previously served in the ranks of Firefighter and Seasonal Firefighter. He is survived by his son Ryan, who is 14 years old.

Memorial Service:

When: Wednesday, September 11th, 2024
Location: Saint Patrick's Catholic Church located at 114 King Street, Larkspur, CA 94939
Time: 10 AM

Immediately following the memorial, a reception will be held at the American Legion Hall, 500 Magnolia Ave, Larkspur, CA 94939.

Uniformed Personnel and Apparatus Information: All Fire Service agencies are invited to the celebration.

Preferred Uniform(s): Class A’s (‘Sea of Blue’) or Station Uniforms for on-duty personnel

Fire Apparatus will begin staging at 8:30 AM at Central Marin Fire Station 16, 15 Barry Way, Greenbrae, CA 94904.

Uniformed personnel requested to assemble at the church by 9:30 am.

Apparatus wishing to attend, please RSVP by Sept. 9th to secretary@iaff1775.org (Please indicate your agency, type of apparatus, and number of personnel).

Honor Guard Members are asked to arrive in uniform no later than 8:00 a.m. (There are no changing facilities on site; however, we may make arrangements to utilize a Fire Station nearby if need be.)
