LODD Announcement: Lake Valley Fire Protection District Fire Engineer Neil Schnaible

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that Lake Valley Fire Protection District and Lake Valley Professional Firefighters Association, Local 4409, announce the passing of one of their own.

Fire Engineer Neil Schnaible passed away on May 4, 2026, from a medical emergency that occurred while on duty on April 29, 2026.

Engineer Schnaible served the Lake Valley Fire Protection District and the community of South Lake Tahoe with honor, distinction, and unwavering dedication. He exemplified the highest ideals of the fire service - courage, professionalism, and a selfless commitment to protecting lives and property. His service to this District and to this community will never be forgotten.

Neil pursued a career in the fire service, graduating from Lake Tahoe Community College in 2016. He worked for Fallen Leaf Fire before being hired by Lake Valley Fire Protection District in 2019. His passion for service and helping his community pushed him to continue his education and become a firefighter-paramedic. He loved being a firefighter and deeply valued the camaraderie of his brothers. He was also a mentor to many entering the fire service, especially those pursuing firefighting later in life.

On May 1, surrounded by his department, Neil was promoted and pinned as an Engineer by his wife, LeeAnn, before he passed on May 4, surrounded by those who loved him. Neil is survived by his wife, LeeAnn; his daughter, Hailee; his mother, Jolene; his sister, Mia; and his dog, Endo.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor; family, friends, firefighter brothers, and all who knew and loved Neil are welcome to gather in his honor. Please note that the family has requested no uniforms or Class A attire. Please see service details below.
