LODD Announcement: Alameda Fire Department Firefighter Sean Gillion
The Alameda Fire Department and Alameda Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 689, sadly share news of the passing of one of their own.
Firefighter Sean Gillion, 53, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. His passing followed a difficult battle with job-related esophageal cancer. Firefighter Gillion proudly served the citizens of Alameda with honor and distinction for 26 years, retiring in 2023.
Sean loved the fire service and was remarkable at supporting his fellow fire department coworkers. Throughout the department, he was known for having the ability to turn a negative into a positive in the toughest of times. He was qualified to fill the positions of apparatus operator and captain. He also served the community as a member of the department's water rescue team. Sean was involved in the union and community, spearheading several events the union hosted annually. His Alameda Fire Department family and the community embraced Sean as a public servant with a fantastic personality that allowed for positive engagement with everyone he interacted with.
Sean is survived by his wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Amanda and Katie. The memorial service is still being coordinated and will be held in Sonoma, CA, at a future date.
