LODD Announcement: Mountain View Fire Engineer Paramedic Gabriel Shamiya

The Mountain View Fire Department and Mountain View Professional Firefighters, Local 1965, sadly share news of the passing of one of their own.

Fire Engineer Paramedic Gabriel Shamiya, 36, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, after fighting a fearless two-and-a-half-year battle with job-related cancer.

Gabe, as he was affectionately known, proudly served the Mountain View community for nine years, most recently assigned to Fire Station #2 on Cuesta Dr. and Grant Rd. He was an exemplary firefighter and paramedic, a valued member of our Honor Guard, and above all, a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. His compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to service made him one of the most respected and trusted paramedics in our department.

Gabe’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife, Ashley, and a proud father to his two-year-old son, Luca. His radiant smile, kind heart, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was not only admired for his technical skills, excellent bedside manner, and calm demeanor under pressure, but also for the warmth and humility he brought to the firehouse every day.

The Mountain View Fire Department will carry his memory with them always and extends its deepest condolences to the Shamiya family. They are grateful for the outpouring of support from our City Council, City leadership, IAFF Local 1965 President Zeyad Abouata and its Executive Board, CPF, IAFF, MVPD, and fire service partners across Santa Clara County, during this profoundly difficult time.
